Personality tests and personality type tests measure “the totality of [distinct] qualities and traits, as of character or behavior, that are peculiar to a specific person” (American Heritage Dictionary).
A personality test uses a certain theory to formulate its personality type categories. Each personality type test employs a different theoretical perspective. Myers Briggs® uses Jungian Personality Theory and DISC is based on William Marston’s theory of four basic behavioral traits.
The Myers Briggs® Personality Test is the most trusted personality type test in the world today. More than 2 million individuals take this personality test each year in the United States alone. It is also the most used assessment by Fortune 500 companies. That means it tells you not just how you function in your personal life; many companies use Myers Briggs® to help employees and teams achieve success in their careers.
The DISC Personality Test is a personality type test used for understanding behaviors associated with a personality profile. It is probably the second highest ranked personality test used by corporate America today. The DISC Personality Test is among the simplest of all top-ranked test tools with only 28 questions to complete, making it quick and easy.
My initial experience was to do a personality test to see where I want to be in my career path and what degree would best help me succeed in the business world. The test reinforced the idea of finance and that a degree in that field would be my best course of action. These tests help me to better understand myself and realize why I do some of the things that I do. It also showed that I was able to go back to school. It encouraged me, and kept me going class after class.

History of Myers Briggs®
& DISC Personality Test
Myers Briggs® Personality Test, developed by Isabel Briggs Myers, and her mother, Katharine Cook Briggs, was founded on Carl G. Jung’s theory of psychological types. It reports preferences on four scales with each scale representing two opposite preferences.
There are 16 four-letter combinations on the Standard Myers Briggs® Personality Test and 400 specific attributes possible on the MBTI® Step 20 Factor Assessment. In addition, you can purchase any one or all of the Introduction to Type® Series booklets which explain in more detail how to master yourself and understand others in specific situations such as leadership, college, careers, etc. We offer a total of 18 booklets.
The DISC Personality Test, based on the work of William Moulton Marston, measures the behaviors of individuals in their environment. Today there are 8 classic personality categories with 52 specific personality patterns within these. Organizations primarily use DISC to build productive teams, develop effective management and leadership, and improve sales. Individuals use it to determine how they adapt themselves to manage the current job situation, and find what adaptations are still needed to master all its demands.
